We have to start with the classic, The Hustler, which is pictured above. Paul Newman plays Fast Eddie who is a alcoholic who can play some pool. He falls in love with someone who drinks just as much as he does and has some issues. She ends up dead, but hey…he ends up winning a lot of money at the end. So go Paul!
Next we have the sequel to The Hustler, The Color of Money. This is Tom Cruise in his young days. He looks like a cool dude back before all the scientology shit. Anyway, Paul Newman finds this kid who is a jackass but whoops anyone’s ass he plays on a pool table. So he stakes him. Half way through their tour, he decides he’s over the kid. And he’s just going to get back in the game and play himself. They end up playing eachother in a game in a tournament. And Paul Newman thinks he beat the kid, but he soon finds out that the kid let him win. Cruise’s character bets on Paul and dumps the game. It ends with them playing a real game, but you never know who wins. I hate when they end like that.
Poolhall Junkies. This was an HBO movie about a hustler who’s backer fucks him over. So he tries to live a normal life without pool and gambling. Of course that doesn’t work out, and he ends up back on the table. He plays Richie from the 80’s show Silverspoon at the end for like $100k. Of course he wins and everyone’s happy. Some cool shots in that movie though. Check it out.
Stickmen. This one I would have never known about if it wasn’t for my Aussie Friend. It’s a movie about 3 friends in New Zealand who end up in a hole. To get out of it they play in a underground pool tournament run by a Mob guy. Lots of drunk pool playing in this one. It’s good stuff. Definately worth a watch.
